While I will always love a classic HON vertical file, Contain is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  HON has recently expanded the Contain storage portfolio, so here are 4 ways you can get creative with this collection in your own workplace.

1.Optimize Use of Shared Areas

With the growing number of collaborative spaces in today’s workplace, I recommend adding Contain storage to keep these areas versatile and organized.  A typical shared space can be used to host a business lunch at noon and then for a team meeting in the afternoon. Contain credenzas are perfect for storing anything from flatware and plates to notebooks and pens which allows for seamless transitions between these shared spaces throughout the workday.

2. Separation of Spaces

Contain allows you to create boundaries while still promoting an open environment.  Pathways can be created by arranging a line of low credenzas or divide individual workstations by placing a tower between worksurfaces – all while gaining additional storage space.

3. Rethink the Private Office

If you need to revitalize your private office, Contain storage pieces work great with HON desks.  Create your own custom desk by combining Voi worksurfaces and wall mounted storage with a mixture of Contain credenzas, pedestals and towers.  Not only will Contain keep you organized, but it will also allow you to be creative with your finishes by choosing from endless combinations of laminate, paint and pull options.

4. Collaborate by Adding Cushions

Make Contain collaborative by adding cushions to your pedestals and credenzas.  Cushions are perfect for allowing you and your co-workers to have those impromptu meetings or quick strategy sessions – they also add a fun pop of color and pattern to your space!

How are you planning to use Contain in your workplace?

According to Virgin Pulse, 66% of American workers report that positive relationships in the workplace increase their productivity. While you’re bound to grow close to coworkers when you work in the same department or help with the same projects, finding common interests that expand beyond the office walls will solidify those friendships.

For example, I am an avid runner. Many other HNI members share this hobby and great friendships have formed. We enjoy finding opportunities to run together, such as at the HNI 5K that takes place every August. If running isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other ways to bond with fellow employees!

Pick a day of the week to sit in the break room for lunch or leave the office and grab a bite together. This will help you to decompress from the morning, but also have a little fun with friends before finishing up the day. You can also schedule an after work dinner or a weekend coffee get together to build the friendships outside of the office.

Another way to grow closer to your coworkers is to participate in volunteer activities together. Whether it’s Junior Achievement or the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, volunteering is a great way to meet and/or hang out with your coworkers outside of work. Plus, this is also a great resume builder for when you’re ready to take your next move!

I highly recommend getting to know your workspace neighbors – you might find out that you have more in common than office furniture!

Finding a shared hobby, such as running, is a great way to bond with your coworkers.

Cupid and the Stork are delivering two special gifts this month: Valentine’s Day and the celebration of Voi’s 5th year in the HON product portfolio!  In the spirit of Valentine’s Day and Voi’s 5th “birthday” with HON, here are 5 things we love about Voi:

  1. It’s Flexible! Voi can provide a teaming, semi-private, or private office solution with its variety of worksurface, storage, and privacy.HON Voi
  2. It’s Modern, Transitional, and Traditional! Depending on the material selection (laminate, mixed materials), laminate colors, and storage components, Voi can accommodate a more traditional look with a darker woodgrain option and end panels, a transitional feel with a dual-tone laminate option, or modern space with brilliant white worksurfaces and its signature Voi O-Leg.HON Voi
  3. It helps you future-proof! Since Voi is comprised of modular components and non-handed designs, it can be easily re-arranged into different layouts, repurposed, and expanded as the needs of your work space change.HON Voi

HON Headquarters in Muscatine, Iowa:

Right at home in the HON Headquarters building, our Muscatine showroom interplays history and place with direct, real world examples of effective office design.  The century old wood beams and brick walls convey connections to local lumber barons, and are rumored to house a few friendly ghosts!  Don’t let that spook you though, they would love to see you at HON Intensive and Competitive Training on May 10-12.
